Mission

To provide the local and global community with orthopedic care and medical education.

History

We are a Colorado based non-profit comprised of local community members and physicians. The Cornerstone Foundation was founded in 2004 by the physicians of Cornerstone Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, P.C. as an extension of their desire to pursue excellence in orthopedics. From the beginning, the Cornerstone Foundation has strived to: provide orthopedic care to the underserved at home and abroad, educate the community on health and injury prevention, and educate medical professionals on the safest and most effective up to date practices.

Vision

We are committed to leading orthopedic missions worldwide, providing physician and community education, and promoting health and wellness to local youth.

Our physicians have dedicated themselves to providing orthopedic care to the underprivileged locally and abroad.  They have participated in short term medical mission trips to Cambodia, Uganda, Rwanda, Brazil, Honduras, and Guatemala over the last 19 years. These trips offer opportunities to care for impoverished communities that lack proper medical treatment and to educate their local healthcare providers.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical equipment have been donated by medical device companies, hospitals, our patients and other sponsors, and delivered to third world medical clinics during these trips, extending the opportunity for advanced medical care long after our team has returned home.

Monetary donations help further our mission by sending surgical teams overseas, and supplying medical books, medications, and equipment to those in need.  In addition to these efforts abroad, our physicians have helped bring severely injured third-world patients to Colorado to provide pro-bono reconstructive surgeries, restoring function and quality of life.

The Foundation has at its core the desire to educate. Our physicians have given community seminars on topics ranging from injury prevention to emerging technologies in orthopedics. These seminars and forums have been presented to patients, physicians, and to specific segments of the community such as senior citizens or active adults. Educational materials, pamphlets, and articles have been written by our physicians and circulated throughout the community raising awareness, giving instruction, encouraging lifestyle changes, and fostering understanding of all things related to the field of orthopedics.

What We've Achieved

  • Over the years we have provided care for dozens of people in foreign countries who otherwise would never have been healed. Read about some of these patients HERE.

  • We have organized many community seminars on many subjects including; injury prevention, nutrition, arthroscopy and many more.

  • We have built lasting relationships with medical professionals in Cambodia, Brazil, Honduras, and Rwanda.

  • We have offered CME courses annually for colorado physicians through a joint sponsorship with Lutheran medical.

  • We are pursuing accreditation by the Colorado Medical Society to offer CME courses on a more regular basis.
